After 24 years back in Germany

With the 13th congress of the International Association Snow sports at Schools and Universities- IVSS-, for the first time since 1981, an international congress in “Teachings of skiing” has taken place in Germany. This was a challenge and a chance for Interski Germany and those associations who are integrated in the German Association of Teachings skiing (DVS) to offer a platform to those who represent Snow sports at schools and universities, but also to convey to a general public the educational, social and emotional opportunity of winter sports. These were the aims with which the initiators applied at the 15th of March 2001 in St. Christoph/ Arlberg for the organisation of the congress. In the succession the international association gave handicaps for creative elements as well as for the thematic orientation for the realization and they were established by the international association and the organizers in three foci.

The thematic and the foci

  • The variety of snow sports at schools and universities
  • Snow sports at schools- fun and event
  • Perspectives to snow sports- training and research
  • Schools with snow sporting focus

The committee of organisation, in which the different member associations of the DVS were represented, composed on this basis an excellent program, in which main lectures were discussed as well as workshops, and short lectures which includes practice orientated as well as theoretical- scientifically orientated contents. The variety of handed in and presented themes documents that snow sports are still a fascinating and interesting scope of duties and a field of research with consistently new offers according to equipment and practice, over and over new movement patterns and innovations which are also attractive for analyses.

Many offers and a (almost) perfect organisation

chief officer Dr. Repser

While the practice activities with demonstrations and workshops could be performed in the ski area of Oberjoch during good snow conditions, the congress centre of Bad Hindelang offered ideal preconditions for speeches, workshops and seminars, as well as presentations of posters, enterprises and organisations.

The organizers were successful to fill the congress motto as regards content and they were successful with a wide invested offer to give consideration to general interests as well as specific interests. Most notably they succeed in arranging between the fields schools and universities through trans-sectoral themes for upbringing and education as well as vocational training and research. Besides in Key- Note- Lectures there have been represented elementary questions on partly general- scientific basic, which found application and extension in short speeches and in practice orientated workshops.

As beginning two lectures were planned with which the topic should be put in a wider social- political frame: Dr. Heiner Geißler should give a lecture on “Political aspects of winter sports at schools and universities” and the minister of education Monika Hohlmeier should give a lecture on “Educational aspects of winter sports instruction at schools and universities”. Unfortunately both political main speakers could not give their lecture in person. While the lecture of Dr. Heiner Geißler had to fail due to illness, Mrs. Hohlmeier was represented by her chief officer Mrs. Dr. Repser.
